In Support of International Women's Day

Find out how Razzamataz mentors and trains women to use their voice and experience to drive change. Meet Kimisha Lewis, who is about to embark on her first business venture as the franchise partner of Razzamataz Coventry.

Background
I trained at Rose Bruford drama school and on graduating, became a professional actor working in the West End, International tours and Film, incorporating everything I learn into teaching between acting jobs. I’m at the stage in life when I now want to further my own career and when I saw an advert for Razzamataz, I knew that I wanted to open a school with their brand behind me. I just loved the vibe and how Razzamataz links with the professional industry. When I teach, I strive to push my students beyond their self-belief and capabilities and treat them like professionals. I could see that with Razzamataz, with so many additional training and opportunities, I could produce well rounded performers.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone

I haven’t got any business experience apart from being self-employed. However, the inspiring story of Founder Denise and all the other Principals, have given me the confidence to know that I can do this.

The importance of support

The network has been amazing. Whether that is visiting other schools, talking to Principals on the phone or email I have felt so supported already. Denise and Charlotte in the Head Office are always at the end of the phone, and they make it clear that there is no such thing as a silly question, which really will help me to thrive.

The Prince’s Trust

I’ve been fortunate to have support not just from Razzamataz, but from The Prince’s Trust also. I know Denise also worked with The Trust when she set up Razzamataz so it is lovely that the connection has continued.

The importance of diversity

I am a true believer in the power of inspiration. As a black woman, it is important that the younger generation of girls can see me and know that it is possible for them too. It is important to have women from different backgrounds, cultures and race to be given a voice to show a different perspective. In terms of working in the theatre, it can be anything from considering what colour of microphone to use through to the best hairstyles to suit all hair types. These are questions that are not always considered but this now needs to change.
