Celebrating the Coronation by supporting young people

King Charles III is a patron of more than 420 charities and started his own charity, The Prince’s Trust back in 1976. To date, it has helped a million young people between the ages of 11 to 30 to find the tools and confidence to try free courses, access training and mentorship and build careers.

The Prince’s Trust has made a considerable impact with many notable people and business leaders including actor Idris Elba having been helped by the charity. It was also the place that Denise Hutton-Gosney, Founder and Managing Director of Razzamataz Theatre Schools first turned to when she launched the theatre school franchise business back in 2000.


As we celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, we look at the importance of continuing to support young people, and the role that Razzamataz is now playing within The Prince’s Trust.


Humble beginnings

“I grew up in a very modest two-bedroom flat just outside of Glasgow and for someone in my circumstances, it’s not expected that you will go on to run your own successful business,” says Denise. “For me and lots of others from similar backgrounds, you are just not used to people believing in you and supporting your ambitions. What I got most from The Prince’s Trust was the confidence that even though I didn’t have a university education, I could go on and achieve my dreams with the access to their advice, training and support. I’m very grateful to The Prince’s Trust and exceptionally proud to be one of its alumni.”


Supporting young people

Denise feels so passionately about supporting young people that Razzamataz Theatre Schools is currently an Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, with much of the work they do being so closely aligned to the work Razzamataz does for its more than 10,000 students across the UK.

Nurturing life skills

Razzamataz Theatre School was launched in 2000 and started franchising in 2007, gaining national attention after Denise appeared on BBC’s Dragons’ Den. Today, there are more than 60 schools nationally and plans to launch internationally. Although the business has massively grown, it has not lost its core values that were so important to Denise from day one.


“Performing Arts is a life tool and stepping stone to a brighter future and at Razzamataz, we help children and young people unlock their potential by building their confidence and self-esteem to give them the courage to achieve whatever it is they want to do in life,” says Denise. “The Coronation of King Charles III is a reminder just how important it is to invest in young people and just what they can achieve with the right support.”


Combine your passion with a purpose

The Razzamataz franchise model gives people from all different backgrounds the opportunity to run their own theatre school business. The model is very flexible and the training and support offered means no previous experience in the arts is necessary. The role of franchisee gives people creative freedom, exciting financial rewards and the chance to positively make a difference to young people in their local communities.


To continue to support young people, Razzamataz franchisees offer their students various ways in which they can build on their life chances such as scholarships in association with The Stage newspaper and the chance to audition for the company’s own charity called Future Fund, offering financial assistance for students going on to college or university.

Razzamataz Theatre Schools offer employment to some circa 600 people either as teachers, assistants, or part of the admin team. There are plenty of opportunities to grow with many people starting out as work experience placements and progressing to assistant Principals or Principal roles.
