Razzamataz Theatre Schools is delighted to announce they have just signed up their first male Razzamataz Principal. Neil Roberts from Rickmansworth will be opening a Razzamataz franchise in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, with his wife Lisa Roberts where they will be heading up a team of dedicated teachers to instruct children in dance, drama and singing.
Neil is a professional performer who has appeared in leading roles in numerous West End and regional theatre productions, ranging from Christopher Robin in Winnie The Pooh to the title role in Hamlet. He has just finished a tour of the Sound of Music in Kuala Lumpur but is back in plenty of time to oversee the launch of Razzamataz Watford with Lisa.
“To be honest I’m quite surprised to find out that I am the first male Razzamataz franchise owner because this is a really sound business venture and you don’t need to have a performing arts background to become a Principal,” says Neil. “I love performing but I was really keen to start my own business. Razzamataz is extremely flexible so I can be a Principal without compromising my work as a professional actor.”
Neil and Lisa first heard about Razzamataz while watching BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2007 when Founder and Managing Director Denise Hutton-Gosney appeared on the show. “Duncan Bannatyne's backing gave it a lot of credibility. We liked the fact that the classes were exciting and the topics that are covered very current, exactly what kids want. The cost to parents for the classes for their children during these difficult times is also a plus, it's more cost effective for the pupils than many schools.”
Razzamataz are also very committed to working with professional performers and in the past have worked with an array of people from Kylie Minogue’s choreographer to a Lady Gaga tribute act and hip hop crew Zoo Nation. “As a professional performer myself I’m really excited about using my contacts to make Razzamataz Watford a really great place for children to learn and have fun. I will definitely be calling on colleagues in the industry to show my pupils what they can achieve through hard work and dedication.”
Razzamataz is one of the fastest growing theatre schools in the UK. There are more than 40 part-time Razzamataz Theatre Schools, all successfully following the franchise formulae that Hutton-Gosney and Bannatyne have created.
To become a Razzamataz principal it is not necessary to have a performing arts background or to have run a part-time theatre school previously although an interest in the arts is a must. If you decide to take up the franchise option, the Razzamataz team provides a fully comprehensive training week that will include how to find the most dynamic teachers, first aid training, health and safety issues, child protection, PR and marketing, performing arts material as well as customer service.
