Razzamataz Arts Awards

Razzamataz Arts Awards recognised by UCAS

Working to support young people throughout their performing arts training is a passion for Razzamataz Theatre Schools, the part-time performing arts school that gained national prominence when Founder and Director Denise Hutton-Gosney made a successful pitch to Duncan Bannatyne during BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

As part of the theatre school’s commitment to their students, they are delighted to announce that they can now offer the Arts Awards, an accredited qualification for young people aged 11 to 25 at Razzamataz, which is recognized on the UCAS Tariff. Arts Award is offered at Bronze, Silver and Gold and is accredited by Ofqual. At each level, young people are assessed on their planning and review skills and can explore any of the art forms including performing arts, visual arts, literature, media and multimedia.

“We are delighted to be offering the Arts Awards to our students and see this as an exciting opportunity for them,” says Denise Hutton Gosney. “The Awards builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities and prepares them for further education or employment, all massively important for older children having to compete for places at colleges and universities.”

In fact, the Level 3 Gold Arts Award has been recognized on the UCAS Tariff and upon successful completion, students will be awarded 35 Tariff points, which compares to AS Level qualification C Grade (40points), Higher Sports Leader Award (30 points) and Music Theory Examinations Grade 8 Distinction (30 points). Students applying to university for the 2011/12 academic year who have achieved a Gold Arts Award will be able to include it on their application form.

“In the past, performing arts has often been overlooked and young people with the talent and desire to take up a career in this field would have found it very difficult to receive any national qualification,” says Denise Hutton Gosney. “Razzamataz students can get a real head start in their arts career now and we are extremely proud to be able to offer the Arts Awards as part of our curriculum. For those that struggle academically but have real passion, talent and commitment for the performing arts, this is their chance to shine.”

Launched in 2005, the Arts Award is run through a collaboration between Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall. The award fosters creative, communication and leadership skills and helps to prepare young people for further education and employment. There are currently ten schools involved, although there are plans to include all of the schools, in which there are almost 40 up and down the country.

Razzamataz classes consist of three hours of dance, drama and singing and the curriculum covers the whole of the performing arts, from classic West End musical theatre to commercial street dance and hip hop.

Razzamataz is a thriving business with further expansion plans. If you want to become part of the Razzamataz team, why not visit the Discovery Dens in Carlisle and Exeter every month, where you can meet the Managing and Associate Directors to find out what is required of you to run a Razzamataz franchise?

This flexible and rewarding career is ideal for mums and ex-performers with families, so much so that Razzamataz are finalists in the ‘mumandworking’ Awards judged by Sarah Beeny.

As well as the franchise opportunities available, Razzamataz has contracts with Thomson and First Choice Family Holidays and Carnival Cruise Lines. Duncan Bannatyne remains very much involved with Razzamataz with a further two-year commitment to the business.

In fact the latest project is Razz Xpress, a new family fitness service offered in Bannatynes Health Clubs. Currently available in Bannatynes in Ayr, Scotland, the service will be rolled out to further clubs over time.

STOP PRESS*****Two recent Razzamataz schools have opened on day one with full capacity, making profit immediately – almost unheard of in business today!
