Carlisle theatre school secures teaching deals at holiday parks

A Carlisle theatre school has won new contracts to supply performing arts teachers to holiday parks across the UK.

Razzamataz will now have a presence at 10 Haven sites and Center Parcs in Whinfell, Penrith.

It already sends staff abroad to Thomson Family Resorts and First Choice Villages and Denise Hutton-Gosney, managing director of Razzamataz, is delighted by the continuing expansion of her theatre school.

She told The Cumberland News: “I’m over the moon. I used to holiday at Haven when I was a child and I was a choreographer at Center Parcs for about six years so I have lots of good memories [of these places].”

The extra business means Razzamataz will be recruiting 60 performing arts teachers for this summer. Applications for the auditions, which will be held in Carlisle and Reading, are starting to pour in. Denise explained: “The Carlisle audition tends to be the busiest, our biggest recruitment is from the Carlisle area.

“We have the Cumbria Institute of arts so there are a lot of local students who do really well.

“We’re looking for some teaching experience but we’re also looking for big characters, people are on holiday so you have to really make it fun.”

Razzamataz was first put in the national spotlight back in 2007. Denise appeared on the BBC entrepreneur show Dragon’s Den to make a pitch for investment.

Multi-millionaire Duncan Bannatyne liked what she had to say and agreed to stump up the cash to make Razzamataz one of the fastest growing part-time theatre schools in the country.

The Carlisle audition will be held at Atlas Works in Denton Holme on Sunday February 27. For an application pack, e-mail helen@razzamataz.co.uk
